Although she never went home with an "American Idol" the title, Kellie Pickler was one of the best contestants from the show. Her birth name was Kellie Dawn Pickler, on the 28th of June 1986, at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. The mother of the child was just 16 when she got expecting her. The childhood of Pickler was not easy because her father was addicted to alcohol and drugs even though her mother had divorced from her at the age of 2. Morton gained custody of Pickler for two years. However, Pickler acknowledged that not all went as planned. "I recall my mother and I were together sitting in the same kitchen and I told her I'd rather die than to be here with you. I would like God would remove me.' She pulled out a kitchen knife, placed it onto the counter top, and I was told, "Here, you do it." in fourth grade. It's a shame that I didn't act on it. It left lasting scars on my heart. Pickler ended up being given to her grandparents by the court when she turned 12 years old. Morton failed to appear in the court hearing. Pickler was brought up with her mother and grandmother throughout her lifetime. Pickler cites them as being the most influential individuals in her life. The grandmother Faye Pickler died from lung cancer in January 2002. she was subsequently in the care of her grandfather. Pickler completed her studies at the North Stanly High School located at New London, North Carolina.
